Recurring Respiratory Vulnerability — A Metal Element Pattern
Four respiratory infections in one year pointed not to immune weakness but to a grief-layer holding pattern in the Metal element that left the lungs energetically susceptible.
Age
52
Element
Metal (primary — grief-holding pattern), Earth (secondary depletion)
Situation
Recently retired, bereavement two years prior (loss of spouse), physically active, non-smoker
Presenting Pattern
The client presented following a fourth respiratory infection in twelve months — each requiring antibiotic treatment. An immunologist had found no structural immune deficiency. Pulmonary function tests were normal. The GP had suggested the client was 'just having a bad run.'
The client's personal history included the loss of his wife two years prior, after which he had — by his own account — 'got on with things.' He had returned to physical activity, maintained his social connections, and described himself as 'managing well.' He did not present grief as a concern and came to the session asking specifically about his immune resilience.
Session 1 — Energetic Scan Findings
Primary pattern
Lung meridian — significant compression pattern throughout the channel. Not a depletion in the conventional sense but a held contraction: the energetic equivalent of a breath perpetually half-taken. Large intestine meridian showing sluggish flow consistent with an inability to 'let go' — both the physiological and emotional meaning of this function.
Emotional layer
Unexpressed grief signature — strong, long-standing, and clearly stratified. The field showed a pattern characteristic of grief that had been consciously managed rather than processed: contained rather than moved through. The Metal element in Chinese medicine governs both grief and the capacity to release it. When grief is held rather than expressed, the lung field contracts — and contracted lungs are susceptible lungs.
Secondary finding
Earth element (spleen and stomach) showing mild depletion — consistent with the nourishment drain that sustained grief places on the digestive energetic function.
"He had not suppressed his grief from weakness. He had contained it from strength. But the lungs do not distinguish between the two."
Session 1 frequency work was gentle: opening the lung channel without forcing the holding pattern to release faster than the system could integrate. The large intestine meridian received specific attention to support the releasing function. Earth element was stabilised to ensure the client had sufficient ground beneath him before deeper Metal work began.
Sessions 2 and 3
After Session 1, the client reported — unprompted — that he had 'found himself thinking about her more than usual.' He described this not as distressing but as 'like finding a room I had locked and forgotten.' This spontaneous re-emergence of grief material is a recognised pattern following Metal element work: as the lung channel opens, the grief held within it begins to move naturally.
Session 2 continued the opening work, with additional frequency alignment to support what the system was already beginning to do. Session 3, seven weeks from the initial, showed a lung field markedly less contracted. The holding pattern had not disappeared — grief of this depth and duration does not resolve in weeks — but it had softened significantly, and the channel was now open enough to breathe fully, both literally and energetically.
Outcomes at Six Months
Documented outcomes
- ✦No respiratory infections in the six months following the first session (compared to four in the preceding twelve)
- ✦Client began grief counselling two months after Session 1 — his own initiative
- ✦Reported improved physical endurance during exercise — consistent with fuller respiratory function
- ✦Earth element stabilised; digestive comfort improved
- ✦Client continues maintenance sessions every six weeks
Practitioner Notes
This case illustrates something that is difficult to demonstrate in conventional medicine but appears consistently in energetic work: the body does not separate emotional experience from physiological function. The lung is not merely a respiratory organ — in the energetic map, it is the organ of grief, of letting go, of the boundary between self and world. When grief is held unprocessed in a person whose Metal element is their dominant constitutional type, the lungs will eventually express what the person cannot.
The Vibracore approach did not treat the infections. It addressed the energetic holding pattern that made repeated infection possible. The client's own system, once the channel was opened, did the rest.
